
After he is taken into custody following a police fight, troubled city orphan Joey finds new purpose in his life when he moves to the Broken Wheel Ranch. Jim Newton, a recent widower, owns the ranch, and adopts Joey, also giving the boy a beautiful black horse named Fury. The horse frequently saves the day when visitors get into trouble on the ranch.
The spoiled daughter of a deceased veteran comes to stay with the Newtons.
Rustlers take Fury, but when Peter and Joey try to rescue the stallion, he winds up rescuing them.
Jim is adamant about not selling Fury, until Joey suffers an injury that requires an expensive surgery immediately.
Buzz is unimpressed when Joey joins the Boy Scouts.
